Established in 1984, Te Kairanga is an important part of the Martinborough story, their land was originally owned by the founding father of Martinborough, John Martin. While this land is steeped in history, Te Kairanga's winemaking is very much focused on the future, to fully realize the potential of this incredible piece of land. Pinot Noir is the beating heart of Te Kairanga, Small parcels of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Riesling showcase the abundance of our region.
Original Awatere: a valley and a style apart. Vavasour is the founding winery of Marlborough’s smaller, cooler Awatere Valley. An intimate knowledge of this dramatic southern pocket of Marlborough rewards us with wines of extraordinary elegance, perfume and texture.
The essence of Central Otago; a reflection of place. Bannockburn, under the auspices of Mount Difficulty is our home. Part of our uniqueness stems from this namesake mountain, under which a particular microclimate can be found. This area is at the southern end of the Cromwell Basin, has a narrow range of heat summation, large diurnal shifts, and long, cool, dry Autumns. It is because of this our wines show a true reflection of place.
Long ago, Martinborough was covered in scrub brush. Russian Jack and pioneers like him, known locally as “swaggers,” worked tirelessly to clear the land. These rich and fertile lands, now covered in picturesque vineyards, produce world class wines thanks in part to the hard work of these pioneering heroes. He is honoured locally by a bronze statue in his memory.
Year in, year out, on song. It’s no surprise that judges and wine lovers alike applaud Dashwood’s ability to consistently over-deliver. For 30 years Dashwood has been the companion brand to Vavasour. From the same winery and crafted by the same hands – none other than Stu Marfell, the New Zealand International Wine Show’s 2018 Winemaker of the Show.
Reassuringly crafted by Mt Difficulty, Roaring Meg wines are stylish and contemporary Central Otago wines that are vivacious and approachable. The colourful story of Roaring Meg comes from Central Otago’s pioneering past. Discovery of gold in the 1860’s attracted many young men to Central Otago in search of their fortune, and a number of enterprising young women equally keen to share in the spoils. Meg, one such high-spirited lady, made such a fuss while being carried over a stream, it was named after her.
New Zealand Pioneer in Sustainability. Since 1988, Grove Mill has been dedicated to crafting exceptional wines with minimal environmental impact. In 2006 Grove Mill became the first winery in New Zealand to achieve carboNZeroTM certification. Today, the Southern Bell Frog, for which we have established a wetland beside our winery, is a symbol of our commitment to preserve our land for the enjoyment of future generations.
Our home is the famed Marlborough winegrowing region on New Zealand’s South Island. Established in 1994 in the Awatere Valley, our name comes from nearby Clifford Bay, the point where the Awatere River meets the cool waters of the Pacific Ocean. To the north are the stunning White Cliffs and beyond that is Cloudy Bay.
