ABOUT
Sustainability
Creating exceptional wines with minimal environmental impact. We're taking practical, tangible steps to safeguard our environment for future generations.

Recycled New Zealand Glass
In an industry dominated by coal-powered glass produced overseas, we have chosen to bottle our wines in New Zealand, using New Zealand-sourced, recycled glass, reducing our carbon footprint and supporting our local industry.

Powered by solar
Solar energy at Grove Mill, Vavasour, Te Kairanga, Martinborough Vineyard and Lighthouse Gin drastically reduces our use of energy from the main grid.

Leading water conservation
Winery wastewater at all wineries is recycled to irrigate our vineyards and native plantings through a system held up as industry benchmarks in Marlborough and Central Otago.

Part of the landscape
The living roof on top of Mt Difficulty's barrel hall not only conserves energy through evaporative cooling, but also embraces a circular use of water by using process water from winemaking for irrigation. Watch video.

Small footprints
Our small wineries are positioned amongst our vineyards, reducing the carbon footprint of incoming grapes during harvest, and integrating into the landscape.

Restoring local habitats
The wetlands we have established beside our central bottling and warehousing facility play an important role in maintaining a healthy eco-system and is a thriving habitat for local fauna. At our most recent planting day 700 beneficial native species were planted and 58 predators were removed.

Sustainable packaging
Our Grove Mill and Dashwood labels are made from sugarcane, a highly renewable material that utilises an abundant by-product.

SWNZ certified
All our wineries are accredited members of the Sustainable Winegrowing Initiative (SWNZ). We have chosen to use the SWNZ framework as a foundation on which to build our own sustainable goals, targeting a higher level than is required by the initiative.
